Sustainable Agriculture Gardening Education
I started teaching S.A.G.E. because I saw what happens when someone plants their first seed and realizes, “I can grow this myself.” There’s something special about watching food come out of the ground—especially for young people who’ve never seen how it happens. Farming teaches patience. Gardening builds confidence. Growing food creates independence. S.A.G.E. was built to make those lessons accessible—in schools, in community spaces, and wherever people are ready to learn.
What Is S.A.G.E.?
S.A.G.E.™ is Soulful Soil Farms’ structured agriculture education program designed to teach youth and community members how to grow food, understand food systems, and apply sustainable agriculture practices. Participants learn soil health, seasonal growing, composting, water conservation, and smallspace gardening through hands-on instruction and real-world practice.
How the Program Works
S.A.G.E.™ combines:
Hands-on planting and harvesting
Soil health and regenerative practices
Composting and waste reduction
Water conservation basics
Small-space and urban growing techniques
Food systems awareness and leadership development
Who It’s For
S.A.G.E.™ is delivered in age-based cohorts for youth and adults.
Access & Partnership Model
S.A.G.E.™ is offered in two ways:
Community-Based Cohorts (Free/Low-Cost Access) Supported through grant funding and nonprofit partnerships, allowing free or low-cost participation for youth and families in underserved communities.
School & Organizational Partnerships (Contract-Based) Schools, municipalities, and organizations can partner with Soulful Soil Farms to implement S.A.G.E.™ programming at their site.
Program Outcomes
Participants gain:
• The ability to grow food independently
• Practical sustainable agriculture skills
• Greater awareness of food systems
• Leadership and teamwork experience
Growing in Any Space
You don’t need acres to grow food. We teach participants how to grow in backyards, raised beds, containers, and small urban spaces—using what they have.
